Tribal Revolts in Manipur (North-East)

The disunity amongst the princes of the Manipur royal family led to a war between this Kingdom and the British. When the king of Manipur died,his eldest son Surchandra succeeded him to the throne.But Prince Tikandrajit , aided by other members of the royal family ,ouerthrew Surchandra and occupied the throne Surchandra now sought the help of the British .
The British goverment declared war against Manipur on 27 April 1891. Tikendrajit and his followers fought very bravely but were defeated in the war. Tikendrajit was captured and hanged by the British. According to Capt.Hearsey an Anglo-Indian military official of the time .
