The Second Carnatic War (1749-54)

In 1748 ,the rulers of both Carnatic and Hyderabad died.Wars of succession broke out in both these states. This gave Dupleix a chance to fulfil his ambitious designs. He succeeded in making Chanda Sahib Nawab in Carnatic and Muzaffar Jang Nizam in Hyderabad .The British suppored the claims of rival candidates -Muhammad Ali in Carnatic and Nasir Jang in Hyderabad . Meanwhile ,Robert Clive ,a young clerk in the East India Company ,volunteered his services and persuaded his commander to pursue a bold plan .He marched to Arcot ,the capital of Carnatic and besieged it. Chanda Sahib was Killed and Muhammad Ali was placed on the throne . Dupleix was recalled to France .This was a severe blow to French ambitions in India.
